Andrew Reynolds on the benefits of having a coach

Cash on Demand and luxury lifestyle

Ever since I was a child, I have been petrified of water. I couldn’t swim. I knew that if I were in deep water, I would drown. I bought a house with a pool – how dumb is that for a guy who can’t swim? My kids took me in the pool. I edged my way along to the deep end, and they said, “Right, now let go.” Oh, no. I mean, my knuckles were whiter than white. I was just petrified of this thing. I came to a fork in the road. I said, “Hang on a second. I’ve got so many years of my life left. I’ve got this bloody house with a pool now. If I fall in that pool when I’m out in the garden one day, having had too many brandies, I’m gonna die.”

What I did: I went out and I found a mentor. I found a swimming coach. I found a teacher. Somebody that had the skills I wanted to teach me to swim. This guy came around to my house and he did me a two-hour cheap session. It was — I dunno — like 100 quid or something for two hours. And he got me in the pool and within two hours he had my head under the water, which I would never do. I couldn’t have water on my face. I hated it. I was so petrified. And he got me in a position where I could go under water and put my head under the water and I was comfortable with it.

At the end of the two hours, he then said to me, “Right. Let’s go and have a coffee. Let’s sit down.” And he said, “Now, obviously I’ve sort of overcome your fear of water. It’s still there; we need to do a bit more work on it. But I’ve taught you the basics of breathing so that you can go under water and not panic and not die. okay? Now, obviously you’re going to want to learn backstroke, crawl, breaststroke. All these other fancy strokes. I’ve got some other techniques to really get rid of that fear of water.” And one actually, it was a complete nightmare. The guy actually, he’s like an extreme teacher; you wouldn’t want to work with him. He made me lay on the water, expel all the air from my body, so I floated down to the bottom, and then he stood on me for two minutes.

He said, “I’ll get rid of that fear.”

The point I’m making is, at the end of my two-hour session, he spent about five minutes with me, and he said, “Right, seriously, now you’ve got to think about this. Do you want to learn to swim? If you want — I’ve shown you basics — if you want to do the more advanced stuff, like all the strokes and the breathing techniques and the whole bit, I’ll come here once a week and I’ll teach you stuff. And it will cost you X pounds.” It wasn’t cheap. “It will cost you X pounds.” As a direct result of that, after two years I can now swim. He’s been coming to my house once a week to teach me to swim.

The reason I mention this is because I wanted to mention to you the fear thing. I know there are people in the room today that are going to be really, really petrified when they come to launch their first project. There are going to be people like me who say, “Ah, I can’t swim. Therefore I won’t go in the pool.” There are going to be people here saying, “I don’t know how to do a website. I don’t know how to do all that stuff, so I won’t listen to any of it.” You know, like this. “I don’t know how to do a website, so forget it. It’s not for me.” Find out, okay? Get a coach. Learn how to do a website.

The reason I mention this is because speakers are going to — I’ve, as you know, I’ve hand-selected some speakers and coaches to come over and spend time on stage with you. And I want to explain what they’re going to do. They’re going to do like my swimming guy. They’re going to come on stage, they’re going to show you the basics on the thing. They’re going to get you to do your turn in the water. They’re going to get your face under the water. They’re going to get it so that your fear has disappeared, and they’re going to give you the basic strokes.

Now, with my swimming guy, I didn’t say to him, “You know how to swim. I don’t know how to swim, so I want you to come to my house once a week and teach me for nothing. That’d be all right, wouldn’t it?” Same with the coaches today. They’re going to give you a free session today. At the end of their presentation, they’ll be just like with my swimming coach. They’ll spend five minutes with you to talk about any other products and services and that sort of thing they have available. So if they have additional training — because there’s no way they can teach you everything in two hours — if they have additional training materials, and because I’ve got so many different speakers coming for the weekend, if there’s one particular guy and you think, “I really like that he’s doing. I’d like to follow through on that.” He’s going to take five minutes at the end, and he’s going to talk to you about some of the products and services that he offers. Is that fair? Yeah.

And these are not things, it’s not like a sales pitch. You don’t have to buy this stuff. If you’re thinking, “I haven’t got any money. I can’t afford any other things.” You don’t need it. My swimming teacher took me in the pool and got me to do the basics. He overcame the fear of water; that’s all I wanted from the guy. But then I moved on and I did some additional things, and I can now do loads of different strokes.

In the Cash On Demand course you will learn the basics – you’ll be able to get in the water and swim. For those students who then want to go on to the next level, there are other face to face coaching courses available later.
