About four or five years ago, a guy in the States was offering me reprint rights to a tape set he had made. I think I paid $1,000 or maybe £1,000, for reprint rights to this simple audio tape product.
Now, I didn’t realise at the time but he’d sold thousands of them. He was in the business of selling reprint rights to guys like you and me.
Using the rebranding techniques I teach on the Cash On Demand course, I tweaked the package a little bit and I put slightly different covers on it, That way my version of the product LOOKED very different to the standard version being offered on the internet.
More importantly he provided ready made sales copy too…… which sounds a great thing…..
If you’re new to buying reprint rights it sounds really appealing to think “Oh yeah, I don’t have to do that bit, I don’t have to do the sales copy because the guy’s given me some already.”
But the reality is you don’t want his sales copy or his website. If you get it as part of a package, throw it in the bin. Remember, this is a website that the guy was giving to everybody, that had the same look and the same sales copy on it!
The standard sales copy talked about an ex-truck driver who was making, I can’t remember what the figures were, $137,000 a year or so, on the internet.
If you search now on the internet for truck driver $137 a year or whatever it is, you’ll probably still find loads and loads of sites.
So all these guys have bought the reprint rights….. they get it home and think, “Oh it’s a license to print money …”
They load up the website, change the name on it so it’s their name, put their payment details, their order form, at the bottom, job done. They sit back and wait for the money to come in. But of course it doesn’t happen.
All you’ve done is bought yourself a very expensive set of reprint rights. There was a standard website with a picture of the truck driver at the top with his truck and a bit of sales copy, which started ‘How a New Jersey truck driver earns $130,267.33 a year online without any products to sell.’
There were hundreds of websites on the internet with that same picture, same copy, same everything, and I just knew that I had no chance of selling against that level of competition.
So I put together my own sales letter – which was totally different. It didn’t mention a truck driver in the headline. It mentioned the guy by name but it didn’t mention that he’s a truck driver; there was no picture of a truck. It didn’t talk about 137,000 …..it was a totally different looking sales letter.
If you received both those sales letters in the post a couple of days apart you wouldn’t recognise the same product offer.
At the time I didn’t actually have any time to get on and do that product, so I actually gave it to one of the members of my inner circle. They went on and sold something about half a million pounds worth of that product. So the site with the re-branding and its own unique sales letter pulls in half a million pounds from the same product. And the other guys are out there all with exactly the same looking websites going nowhere.
Do you see how the thing works? So what you need to do is to re-brand your product using the techniques I show in the Cash On Demand course.
