Local Surrey Businessman Andrew Reynolds has been named as a 21st Anniversary Ambassador to Camberley based charity Make-A-Wish-Foundation UK.

Andrew Reynolds a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist approached the charity earlier in the year with an offer of funding support for granting wishes to children as well as providing ongoing fundraising opportunities for the charity and a firm commitment to raising the charities profile and awareness.

Make-A-Wish is a charity with a single purpose – to grant magical wishes to children and young people, aged 3 -17, fighting life-threatening illnesses.

Andrew Reynolds said “I am very honoured to become an ambassador for such a fantastically rewarding charity such as Make-A-Wish and look forward to working with them over the coming months.”

Make-A-Wish is currently celebrating their 21st birthday, having granted more than 4,400 wishes since their launch in 1986, and Andrew joins existing 21st Anniversary Ambassadors such as Esther Rantzan, Sir Paul McCartney and even Mickey Mouse.

In the UK over 20,000 children are living with life-threatening illnesses, a figure validated by recent research commissioned by Make-A-Wish Foundation UK.

For many families the Make-A-Wish memory can be the last happy memory they have of their child: having fun in a magical world, surrounded by family and friends – rather than memories of days and weeks of painful treatment in hospital.

Last year the charity raised nearly £3 million. This year the target is to raise £3.6 million – and in 2010, aim even higher and try to raise £5 million to realise their aim of granting 21 wishes a week.

CEO of Make-A-Wish, Neil Jones, said, “We are always delighted to have the support of local businesses and thank Andrew for his kind donation, his ongoing support for Make-A-Wish and also for accepting the role of Ambassador. With Andrew Reynolds support we will be able grant even more magical wishes to children in the local area and across the UK’.”

Andrew Reynolds visited Disability Initiatives headquarters in Camberley with a cheque for £30,000.00 as the charity celebrated its 35th Birthday with a Royal visit and karaoke.

As well as its anniversary, the charity was also celebrating 10 years of being in the purpose built centre which the charity’s patron The Countess of Wessex and her husband Prince Edward officially opened.

Disability Initiative (DI) supports physically disabled people in the area offering a range of activities, training and rehabilitation support. Andrew Reynolds has supported the charity for the last 4 years after reading of a plea for financial support in the local paper. In 2007, Andrew Reynolds funded a range of equipment for the centre and also has continued to fund their activity programme each year.

Andrew Reynolds latest donation of £30,000.00 to the charity will help fund a new initiative to enable the charity to reach more physically disabled people across a wider geographical area and will provide a foundation for a satellite scheme which will enable the charity to start operating day centre resources in Guildford and Basingstoke.

Andrew Reynolds said, ‘I am very excited by this latest support programme developed by the team at Disability Initiative and jumped at the opportunity to fund the programme to ensure that it could begin as soon as possible. ‘

Lucy Brown, Chief Executive of DI added, ‘ Andrews Reynolds on-going generosity and commitment to the charity allows us to push the boundaries and enable us to reach out to people who currently do not access a service such as the one we provide here at DI.’

During the 35th Birthday celebrations at the charities headquarters Andrew Reynolds was able to discuss with The Countess of Wessex how his funding has helped the charity over the last four years and demonstrate an interactive white board he funded which aims to assist with the teaching and education of IT skills to the charities users.

The 2008 Andrew Reynolds Cash On Demand Bootcamp held at the Brighton Centre last weekend not only attracted a record attendance of over 4,000 delegates but also raised over £468,000.00 for Make-A-Wish Foundation® UK.

Award Winning Marketer Andrew Reynolds organised the event and flew in 13 marketing entrepreneurs from Europe, Australia and the USA to give their time, entrepreneurial expertise and training free to all the attendees at the 3 day event. Their generous support further enhanced the fundraising efforts of the Andrew Reynolds Cash On Demand Bootcamp event.

Neil Jones, Chief Executive of Make A Wish Foundation UK, received a cheque from Andrew Reynolds for the sum of £468,681.00, and with donations still coming in from delegates that figure will keep rising. In addition to the staggering amount raised by the event, Make A Wish Foundation are now able to claim a further £100,000.00 + in Gift Aid from the Government on top of the £468,000.00 raised.- – bringing the total raised to over £HALF A MILLION

Neil Jones added, “This is the single biggest donation ever raised at an event for Make A Wish Foundation UK and will go a long way in meeting our target of granting 1,000 wishes a year by 2010. I would like to personally thank all the delegates for their kind generosity and in particular thank Andrew Reynolds for organising the event and making this fundraising opportunity possible.’

Andrew Reynolds, who was recently appointed as a 21st Anniversary Ambassador for the Foundation said, “We are delighted to donate the entire ticket sales proceeds from the 2008 Andrew Reynolds Cash On Demand Bootcamp to Make A Wish Foundation UK and hope to continue to work with them in the future to not only raise awareness of what the foundation does but also to ultimately help them grant more wishes for more children. “

Barbora Barnard is one of Andrew Reynolds many Cash On Demand students, and like many of Andrews students contacted Andrew direct with her own story.

After years of carrying on with her own ‘mediocre lifestyle where one month blends into another and another and ……’ and her husbands own business that he had started 3 years earlier struggling in the declining economic climate, Barbora became ‘tired of waiting’ for her life’s fortunes to change and after watching Andrew Reynolds on The Entrepreneur Channel she decided to become a student of Andrew Reynolds Cash On Demand course.

After reading through Andrew Reynolds Cash On Demand modules and learning of Andrew Reynolds system to focus on achieving the dreams and aspirations you want out of life, Barbora soon realized that she could set not just her business goals higher and achieve them but also believe in herself and have the confidence to take up any challenge and go for it.

Barbora’s ‘You can do it!!’ moment came following a family bereavement, losing a close family member to Cancer and of reading of Andrews own story and continual fundraising work with various charities, became inspired herself to join a team and climb Mt Kilimanjaro in July 2010 to help raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Not only did Barbora want to do the Mt. Kilimanjaro trek to help raise money for this worthwhile cause, but she also wanted to challenge herself personally, improve her own fitness and prove to herself that she was capable of anything.

After Barbora contacted Andrew Reynolds to share her own story he immediately got in contact with Barbora and pledged to sponsor her for £3,750.00 on completion of her trek.

Andrew Reynolds was not only moved by her commitment to raising the money for Marie Curie following her own personal loss, but also by the way Barbora had made a decision to get up and do something, to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, in itself a massive challenge for anyone, let alone a mother of 3 that had never done anything like that in her live.

Andrew Reynolds student Barbora completed her trek in July 2010, taking just over a week to ascend the summit at a staggering 5000 metres and with her team raising around £100 000, which translates to nearly 3000 Marie Curie nurses hours in people’s homes.

A fantastic achievement and well done Barbora!!

A Surrey businessman is backing World Kickboxing Champion Paul Bernard’s unique black belt scholarship scheme to help high-spirited youngsters steer clear of trouble by teaching them discipline, respect and self-worth through martial arts.

Self-made millionaire Andrew Reynolds is donating over £3,000 to the programme run jointly by Precision Martial Arts and Hart and Rushmoor Youth Inclusion and Support Panel (YISP). The money will fund the first year of the three-to-five year black belt course for three Hampshire boys.

Mr Reynolds has been impressed by the progress made by the three lads – Ross Clynes, aged 14, Aiden Nisbet, 13, and 12-year-old Paul Linsell – who started the course in autumn. Parents and case workers have seen positive changes in the youngsters since they began the course. All three have learned to control their anger at home and at school.

Mr Reynolds said, ‘When I first learnt of the scholarship scheme from the local news I immediately wanted to become involved. This project offers a great foundation of stability for these young people and is a project I am very proud to be supporting.’

The Camberley-based entrepreneur will make a guest appearance at the Precision Martial Arts graduation ceremony on Sunday January 10 where he will present Master Bernard with the cheque for £3,141.

“We are very grateful to Mr Reynolds for his vision and support for this project. His generous donation will help these three boys through the first year of their black belt scholarship,” said Master Bernard.

“The scheme is proof that martial arts can help children with challenging behaviours turn their lives around. The three YISP boys I am coaching have come along in leaps and bounds. They arrived with attitude, but in six weeks were attentive and keen to learn.

“All three have gained confidence, control and discipline. They have learned to walk away from trouble. The boys are determined to finish the black belt scholarship course at Precision, and thanks to Mr Reynolds, they are well on the way to achieving that.”

YISP, part of the Wessex Youth Offending Team, works with children who play truant, have problems at home and at school or have come to the notice of the police. Often, the eight to 13-year-olds are referred to YISP by police, children’s services, teachers, community safety teams and even parents who are keen to stop them turning to crime.

Master Bernard, who launched Precision Martial Arts eight years ago, is convinced martial arts can help these children turn their lives around.

Ross, Aiden and Paul were chosen from a group of youngsters from YISP after they demonstrated the right attitude necessary and maintained the rules set by Master Bernard in order to qualify for a scholarship to gain a black belt in martial arts. The rules included no anti-social behaviour, truancy, bullying, fighting or stealing and maintaining respect at home, school and the martial arts academy.

After picking up the local Courier newspaper and reading of local charity Disability Initiative and their appeal for help to raise funds, Camberley based businessman Andrew Reynolds not only made a substantial contribution to help with purchasing vital new equipment but also assisted with financial support to provide a range of enhanced and new activities and therapies that really make a difference to peoples lives. Disability Initiative could not offer any of these without Andrew’s generosity.

The original article ran a story on how Disability Initiative needed to raise £8,000 for 2 MotoMed machines that give movement therapy to people with paralysis, spasticity or other physical weaknesses

Mr Reynolds contribution will now go a long way in helping Disability Initiative continue its work in the community which benefits nearly 100 disabled people in the local area.

Founded in 1975 the Camberley based charity helps disabled adults in Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire, providing services to give disabled adults more independence.

Mr Reynolds said ‘When I learnt of how much work Disability Initiative does in providing not just a fantastic facility but also in providing activities, training and on going support to assist with Disabled people getting a job, work placement or even the opportunity to just develop a new skill, I knew I had to get involved.’

Andrew Reynolds is a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist. His business interests include The SKY TV based, Entrepreneur Channel. Andrew has helped local charities before and in 2005 funded the provision of a community bus for the local Dial A Ride service based next door to Disability Initiative in Knoll Road.

Disability Initiative CEO Lucy Brown said, “The entire team were bowled over by not only Andrew’s huge donation but also in his genuine interest in the work we do. Without the help of local businessman like Andrew we just wouldn’t be able to continue with the work we have been doing and now thanks to Andrew and other contributions we have had since the newspaper appeal, we can purchase much needed additional vital equipment as well as extend our activity programme to include additional activities such as drama workshops and therapy programmes.”

Smyle designed and created the production for the 2009 Andrew Reynolds Cash On Demand Bootcamp at the O2 arena in London, as well as managing the live filming and producing media content.

The client brief from the Andrew Reynolds Cash On Demand Bootcamp organiser was to provide a unique stage set and presentation format at the 15,000-capacity venue – Smyle created the massive 34.5m wide by 11.9m high projection canvas lit up by six of the world’s brightest single-phase true HD projectors —flown off a 25-metre high truss, high above the audience, via a fast-fit custom-designed rigging system. According to supplier QED and projector manufacturer Christies, the 410 square metre screen was over 100 square metres larger than previous largest indoor projection screen in the UK.

Ten flown 16ft x 9ft repeater screens ensured that everyone had a ring-wide view especially those on the upper levels of Arena.

Caroline McNamara, Head of Sales, The O2 arena, commented: “The O2 was delighted to host the ‘Andrew Reynolds Cash On Demand Bootcamp’ event. It was a pleasure to have worked with the team to bring about Andrew’s largest event to date. It was important to be able to fulfil the technical and creative requirements this event demanded and at the same time show case the versatility of the venue. The staff at Smyle did a superb job in demonstrating how effectively this can be done.”

Smyle managed a host of motivational speakers (including two presentations on Andrew Reynolds Cash On Demand system ) who addressed aspiring entrepreneurs in an event held annually by the millionaire. Previously Wembley Conference Centre, The Bournemouth International Centre and The Brighton Centre have hosted Bootcamp but this is the first time it has taken place in the iconic Docklands venue, the largest indoor arena in the UK.

Andrew Reynolds commented:

“A massive thanks to Smyle for all the hard work, extra miles, (literally), and general ‘get stuck in’ attitude that you and your team demonstrated all weekend from the moment you arrived onsite.” He added “The O2 offered great seating and wonderful audio visual opportunities so that all delegates could see the speaker presentations in comfort. It is almost as if this venue was purpose-built to the requirements of the Andrew Reynolds Cash On Demand Bootcamp format.”

Smyle’s production manager, Tom Cordory, gave some insight into the scale of the technical challenge. “The size of the screen was so large that it could not be assembled on the ground and flown into position, it had to be built vertically in-situ in individual sections. There was simply no more space left in The O2 to accommodate any wider screen. The amount of clear air space that the projectors required in order to fill the screen presented us with a whole new level of technical challenges in terms of designing and deploying lighting, sound and access equipment. To cap it all we only had one day to set up the whole event . . . but the result not only achieved the client’s objectives but surpassed their expectations!”

Smyle’s set design had a dynamic screen-base constructed from Kinesis controlled moving walls of creative LED screens. The stage also incorporated an automated rolling riser capable of smoothly revealing a 2.8t Bentley GT Continental which was given away as a prize and 3 further manual rolling risers that were used to reveal a surprise live band performance. Using the moving walls and risers allowed Smyle to keep the stage clear for presentations then dynamically revealing elements to keep the audience guessing and produced a TV style feel to the show.
