Andrew Reynolds has supported Disability Initiative (DI) for the last 4 years after reading in a local paper of a plea for financial support in 2007.
After visiting the organization and learning of the work they do in the local community, Andrew Reynolds immediately donated over £20,000 to purchase a range of equipment for the centre. In addition Andrew Reynolds has also given over £40,000 to help continue to fund the charities activity programme each year since then.
DI supports physically disabled people in the Surrey area offering rehabilitation support, training and a range of activities.
In 2011 the charity celebrated its 35th Birthday as well as its 10 year Anniversary of being in their purpose built centre in Surrey, when it was officially opened by the charity’s Patron, HRH The Countess of Wessex along with her husband HRH Prince Edward.
To mark the Anniversary and also celebrate the 35th Birthday of the charity, HRH The Countess of Wessex attended an open day at the centre in Camberley to mark the occasion.
As a major supporter of the charity, Andrew Reynolds was also invited to the event and arrived with a cheque for £30,000.00 to help fund a new initiative. This funding would enable the charity to reach more physically disabled people across a wider geographical area and also provide a foundation for a satellite scheme which means the charity will be able to start operating day centre resources in nearby towns.
During the celebrations Andrew Reynolds was also able to discuss with The Countess of Wessex his involvement with the charity and how his funding over the last 4 years has helped the charity. With the assistance of the charities users Andrew also volunteered to demonstrate an interactive white board he funded which assists with teaching and education of IT skills.
Andrew Reynolds said, ‘I am very excited by this latest support programme developed by the team at Disability Initiative and jumped at the opportunity to help fund the programme to ensure that it could begin as soon as possible. ‘
Lucy Brown, Chief Executive of DI added, ‘Andrew Reynolds on-going generosity and commitment to the charity allows us to push the boundaries and enable us to reach out to people who currently do not access a service such as the one we provide here at DI.’
