As part of the Entrepreneurs Bootcamp presentations, the audience were shown some moving video footage of several entrepreneurs who had battled to start and run their own businesses in the townships of South Africa.
On of these entrepreneurs was a guy nicknamed “Golden” after his original job working in the South African Goldmines.
Students of Andrew Reynolds Cash On Demand course watched as Andrew met with Golden in his small shack on the township of Khayelitsha on the outskirts of Cape Town.
Golden, having found himself homeless and without work when he was forced to move to Khayelitsha, foraged on the local rubbish dump and one day had the seemingly crazy idea of cutting up old used drinks cans (Coke, cans etc) to fashion them into objects. In particular he decided to cut flower petals from the tin cans and fashion them into tin flowers which could then be painted and sold to tourists in Cape Town.
Gulden’s business grew and his shack is now a popular stopping point for tour buses bringing tourists to see the townships for themselves.
On screen students of Andrew Reynolds Cash On Demand watched as Golden showed the process that he has now got nailed down to a fine art – of taking a raw old can and turning it into a beautiful souvenir.
Golden then got the surprise of his life. Andrew asked him out of the blue, if he could make 2,500 flowers and ship them over to England in the next few months. (You could hear the ripple go through the audience at the O2 as students of Andrew Reynolds Cash On Demand caught on to what Andrew was proposing – that Golden made a flower for every single lady student of Andrew Reynolds Cash On Demand in the audience that day
As the film finished, Andrew asked his team to hand out a metal flower to each and every lady in the audience. You’ll see on the video above the gleaming smile on Gulden’s face – when he realised he had just been given the largest order he had ever had in his life!
